From country western to rock and roll and all stops in between…
In a small farm town just outside of St. Louis, Missouri: at the age of 4, Steve Wilson taught himself how to play the drums just by listening to records. At age 11 he got his first set of drums, joined his first band at 13, played his first gig at 15, and participated in his first recording session at age 17.
In his early days, Steve played in the school marching band and jazz band by day and his rock band by night. Thanks to the support of his music teacher Matt Sokeland, the foundation for a lifelong love of playing the drums was poured.
From there, he attended Percussion Institute of Technology at Musicians Institute (M.I.) in Los Angeles, CA where he had the pleasure of studying with his mentor Ray Luzier. His time at M.I. also led to meeting and recording with Dave Weiner of the Steve Vai Band.
Steve then went on to record and tour with D.H. Peligro: the drummer from the iconic punk rock band Dead Kennedys. A six-week U.S. tour with Peligro resulted in the incredible opportunity to fill in on drums for Dead Kennedys on domestic and international tours, kicking off his extensive and diverse music career.
